Track Name: Telling Stories
When you're looking back six months from now
And reflecting on how things turned out
From the way you were feeling back then
You were anxious and wondering when
You would finally be all that you hoped you would be

And when faced with the stark separation
Between humility and humiliation
When a ransom note becomes a love letter
You'd be wrong to say I made you feel better
You were already great long before you met me

Once is not enough
Every time you call
Once is not enough
Any time at all

And when faced with the stark separation
Between humility and humiliation
When a ransom note becomes a love letter
You'd be wrong to say I made you feel better
You were already great long before you met me
Track Name: Save the City
Hold tight!
Could it begin like this?
I only know how it ends; it ends with a fright.
If real life keeps making a mess of this,
Leave it alone for a while, ‘til we’re out of sight.

This city’s gonna haunt you from the grave

Once, twice, three times and it’s all over
The enemy’s catching up and we’re in his sights
Me, I could never rely on chance
But if it’s ordained, well that’s pretty nice

This city’s gonna haunt you from the grave

Post-mortem’s sounding nice,
I think it’s time to leave for a little while
I’ll dig my grave in time; ‘til then it’s goodbye

This city’s gonna haunt you from the grave
Track Name: Wyoming
The places we forgot, or maybe just neglected
Were written down in books and carefully collected
One hundred years ago, and all throughout the ages,
They put it down in pages: the reason that we’re roaming

Wyoming

We plan to relocate to the least populous state
We’re counting every hour on the way to Devils Tower
We’ll spend some time alone when we get to Yellowstone
We won’t be writing home, we won’t be telephoning

Wyoming

We set out for just a drive to remind ourselves we’re still alive
And even when the sun went down, we didn’t want to turn around
Because there’s something in the sky
I hear my name in a lullaby
And I’m satisfied just knowing where the road is going

Wyoming
Track Name: Photobook
We wouldn’t take it if it wasn’t on a silver spoon
Spent fifteen years on our honeymoon
Sold the furniture and emptied out the baby’s room
cuz it’s not gonna happen

We got some lights and turned it into a studio
And put a camera where the crib was supposed to go
And we don’t look for answers we don’t really want to know
cuz it’s not gonna happen

Hey
What did we do that was wrong?
Why are we still hanging on?
Nobody ever knows what to say

Hey
What about all of our plans? This can’t be how it ends
I’m still happy we tried anyway.

Now we’re busier and more productive than before
But it’s difficult to say what we’re working for
So we never even talk about it any more
cuz it’s not gonna happen

We just focus on the pictures that we’re gonna take
And the comfort in conception of the art we make
But I wonder if we haven’t made a big mistake
cuz it’s not gonna happen

Hey
What did we do that was wrong?
Why are we still hanging on?
Nobody ever knows what to say

Hey
What about all of our plans? This can’t be how it ends
I’m still happy we tried anyway.

Who said the purpose was to grow ourselves a family tree?
We’ll decorate the place with photographs of you and me
hold that smile for me ‘til I reach the count of three
And we’ll see what happens

Have a seat so I can zoom and take a closer look
We’re sure to over stuff the pages of our photo book
There’s lots of love in here and though it’s not a baby’s nook
A whole lot can happen

I’m trying not to make it worse
I’ll hold this pose until it hurts
For you my dear, I’ll keep my vow
I’ll stay right here, ‘til I’m in the ground
Track Name: Labor of Love
We’ve decided to call this a labor of love
And we’re cleaning it off from the bottom to the top

I had a dream I was at your wedding with a polka-dot tie on
Running round the building
Looking for a safety pin
When I rushed into a room

I saw the husband-to-be, he was fall down drunk
He couldn’t see straight, he couldn’t stand up
And the father of the bride looked at me and said,
“Son, our wedding’s in need of a groom”

And I stood there looking like a bag of bones,
The lights were on, but there was nobody home
I said, “If this is to happen, I’ll go along”

We’ve decided to call this a labor of love
And we’re cleaning it off from the bottom to the top

I stood before the congregation with my eyes open wide
Sweating through my suit
Looking like a deer in the headlights
Watching, shaking, waiting for you

You crept through the church like a criminal, stealthy and slow
Absorbing attention as you came through the door
And when you saw me, your jaw hit the floor.

And you stood there looking like a bag of bones,
The lights were on, but there was nobody home
You said, “It’s not how I pictured, but I’ll go along.”

We’ve decided to call this a labor of love
And we’re cleaning it off from the bottom to the top
Track Name: All Hands
Like the smokestacks on the ship near the shoreline
Welcome you home when you arrive
When you’re turning around with the tide
You know I’ll be there to say goodbye

And I can’t tell if we’re really improving or just flailing around ‘cuz we can’t stop moving
We’ll keep trying ‘til we finally get it, if we settle for failure we might regret it
I can’t tell if were even improving but we’re comfortable now, and that must mean something
We’ll keep trying ‘til we finally get it if we fall on our faces and say that it’s time to give up

I’ll regret it all

All hands, underwater!
All mouths, stick together like tacks and nails!
One hand clutches the other!
Track Name: The Last Assignment
I’m looking for the address
Of a washed up aging actress
If I’m lucky she’ll be
At home and asleep and not dead on a mattress

And the highs are high
In the life of a private I
Exposing the lies
Of cheating husbands to jaded wives

But this is the last assignment
I’m getting out while I can
And I’m going back to a town where everyone I know has left already
And this time I’m taking you with me

Whether you like it or not
I’m going back to a place where everyone I know is already gone
And this time you’re coming along
Whether you like it or not

But I think you’ll like it a lot.

I’ve waited my whole life for this
A family, a home, marital bliss
And here I stand at the stove
Preparing what I’ll end up eating alone

And the days drag by
For the wife of a private I
Maybe I’ll run away
Disappear in the night and become your next case

Once again, it’s his last assignment
Well I’m getting out while I can.
And I’m going back to a town where I everyone I know will be happy to see me
Where there’s no doubt they love me

Whether you like it or not

I’m going back to a time and place
Where I knew I belonged
Before my young heart was wronged
And whether you know it or not
That was your last shot

I’m wearing grooves in the floorboards
Pacing backwards and forwards
I’m wearing grooves in the floorboards
Please be home (I won’t be home)
